Day 39
6/8/18
What a night we had. Early evening the wind started to pick up. Got windier and windier. The saplings that were planted by our trailer were about 8' tall. They were bending in the middle and the branches were parallel to the ground. The trailer was feeling every blast. I became so concerned that I pulled in the slide out dinette for about 45 minutes until the wind subsided. Then came something totally unexpected. I was watching out one of the windows and the horizon lit up with lightning flashes. I have never experienced what we saw for the next two hours. The lighting flashes occurred simultaneously three and four and sometimes five flashes at the same time. This went on for a two hours. Thankfully they were far enough away that we couldn't hear the thunder which must have been deafening. I can't imagine living in a place where that occurs. Amazing.
Today was a travel day to Douglas, Wy. Not sure where it is, but we are here. It is halfway to Cheyenne which is where we are headed for the next three days. We did go to a local RR museum and I took these pictures.
The second picture is of a Pullman sleeper car. I remember coming west in the mid 50's with my mother and sister on one of these. Took us three days from east to west. Had a dining car where they served you on linen and real silver utensils. I remember sitting with an older gentlemen while my sis ter and mom had another table. He didn't say anything to me, however my mother later asked if I knew who he was. Of course I didn't but she said he was Paul Muni, and old movie star. Guess he wasn't a flyer either.
