Left Bayfield, Colorado and headed back to Utah. We passed thru Moab again and stopped at the City Market to stock up on a few items. Seems I had not packed enough tonic water for my afternoon gin and tonic. Horror of horrors the shelves were bare where the tonic water should have been. A helpful clerk helped me find a large bottle of tonic so back in business. Headed out of Moab for our destination of Green River, Utah. On the way out of Moab seeing the cliffs of red sandstone and the way the wind had carved them was spectacular. Certainly a town for younger people. The number of shops that rented bicycles, tours, river rafting, etc. were innumerable. Sorry we are a couple of decades past enjoying them. I commented to Sue on the landscape which I had missed when we first landed in Moab, as I was really sick. Leaving, however, allowed me to see all that I had missed when we first hit Moab. Here in Green River, just a spot on the map to stay overnite. As it happens, it is a KOA which I normally pass on. They had the best comments so for one night, how bad could it be. Tomorrow we head for Brigham City, if your plotting this on a map.
Day 24 05/25/18 Our last day in Great Falls and we are compelled to see where the name came from. Back in the car and out to the middle of nowhere to see one of the friggin falls. Seems the Louis and Clark expedition found this falls. However in the early 1900's the city fathers thought it would be a great idea to build a dam and make electricity. Here is a pic of their efforts. From here we went to the First Peoples Buffalo jump. This remarkable geologic area has been used for thousands of years by local tribes to drive buffalo up and over the hills to kill them for food and their hides. One of the interesting facts we learned was that the natives for thousands of years were barefoot. The horse was not introduced to North America until the 1700's. It was said that native tribes from all over the area came to use the buffalo jump. Supposedly there is 18' of buffalo debris still buried beneath the hill. Not much...
Why would you have gin and tonic when you could have a Frappuccino?
