Work continues to finalize the packing of the trailer. Did load a couple of limes for my gin and tonics for relaxing after a long day's drive. The last few items will be loaded on the morning of our departure. Our first night will be in Bothell, WA. which is only about a 3.5 hour drive. Will spend the afternoon there, and have the tires balanced on the trailer. The following morning we will cross the International Border with our passports, Gracie's rabies shot records and some Canadian money that I got from our bank in advance. The exchange rate is pretty good and my understanding is that when forking over American bucks some places don't give you a fair exchange rate. Currently the American dollar is worth about $1.25 Canadian. I thought I had accounted for all the last minute details but was thrown a curve by the State of Oregon. Got a letter on Monday notifying me that starting in January of this year and trailer purchased is now subject to an additional 0.05 Use Tax. If I didn't pay it, they would cancel the trailer registration. Finally dealt with that after one unsatisfactory visit to our local DMV office and a few phone calls to the Oregon state Dept. of Revenue. Will have to return to the DMV office with proof of paying the tax over the internet and crediting our account for same. Another hour or more spent in purgatory. Some final Dr.'s appointments today and any last minute chores that need to be done and then off on Wednesday. Sue has been struggling to get an advance on her diabetic supplies for the trip. It has been two weeks of phone calls to the supplier, Medicare, OHSU which is where her internist is. We think all the hoops have been jumped thru and are keeping our fingers crossed that her supplies arrive before Wednesday. Otherwise we'll have to postpone our departure. They will not ship supplies to Canada. Other than that, ready to go.
