Day 13 05/14/18
P.S. Good thing we also brought the Good Sam camping book as
a gift from the Bay’s. Without
I am
writing this on my computer because the Internet is almost unusable to post to
my blog. We are camping at Whistlers
Campground in Jasper National Park.
Which is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. This is one
of the steam locomotives that used to pull thru town.
We set off this
morning to Athabasca Falls. A huge
waterfall that has eaten away at the rock creating a spectacular falls. I am adding a photo I took of a bear trap at
the campground entrance. Bears are a
problem and all food and other types of treats must be kept inside the
trailer.
On to Athabasca Falls.
I will try and add a fabulous pic of the falls if this internet will
allow. I have added a picture of a crow
at the falls. This was the largest crow
I have ever seen. Probably about 5
lbs.
Seems that there are a huge amount of Asian travelers on bus
tours. All very pleasant and all
smiles. We haven’t seen many US license
plates either in town or on the roads.
We did see an Oregon plate but other than the one we seem to be the only
Americans on the roads. Lots of rental
RV’s on the road also. I believe many
are from Europe as they land on the west coast and then rent these all-in-one
RV’s to travel and see another country.
After the falls we continued on another hour to Columbia
Icefield and Athabasca Glacier. If you
haven’t seen a glacier up close their size is beyond description. Just a huge piece of ice nestled into the
side of the mountain. Their size defies
description. I would only suggest that
once in your lifetime you should take a trip and visit a glacier. We stopped at the visitors center and had
lunch. Did I mention how expensive
everything is up here. Sue had a small
cup of chili and I had a hamburger. Only
$31 Canadian dollars. Still with the
conversion rate it was about a $25 dollar lunch. Sue then took a hike for about 30 minutes while Gracie and I sat in the
car. We then proceeded back to the
campground, about an hours drive. I took
the car and filled it with gas and went to the market. Then back to the trailer for a well deserved
nap. Sue reminds me that on the way back
we came upon three cars that were stopped by the side of the road. Sure enough a photo opportunity arose. Lo and behold, it was a young black bear
eating whatever was of interest right next to the road. Don’t know if they are aware of the
cars. Of course no one got out to take a
closer look. Glad I had a telephoto lens
on.
the internet we could not search for the next
campground. But the camping book gave us
good
suggestions.

Happy to be of some assistance.
