Wednesday Day 15
05/16/18
We started out this morning for Meline Lake, as the weather report called for P.M. thunderstorms. About an hours drive and climbing to 5500’ we arrived. On the way we stopped at a lookout to Meline Lookout which gave a terrific view of the canyon.
This is a picture of Meline Lake. Nothing prepared us for the spectacular view
of the lake itself. Although is was 66
degrees the lake still had a layer of ice to the depth of about an inch. We walked around the water front but it was
still too early in the season for the restaurant to open or the boat dock to
rent boats.
After watching yet another tour bus
pull up and disgorge it’s load of Asians we started back down the
mountain. After a few miles we pulled
over at a picnic spot I had seen on the way up.
It was beside the river flowing from the lake. There were a few picnic tables so we promptly
took out our sandwiches which I had made earlier and enjoyed a leisurely
lunch. At all the gift stores in town,
they sell Bear Repellent, which I assume works.
Did not buy any but certainly were on the lookout for a wandering bear
coming out of the forest as we had lunch.
Finished lunch without any interruptions and headed back to
camp. Back at the trailer, the weather
was fine, so I unpacked our camping chairs and spent the afternoon
reading.
Tomorrow we pull up stakes and head for Banff National
Park. Lake Louise is near and we will
also take a gander at Lake Louise. As
mentioned this weekend is Victoria Day.
The start of the camping season in Canada. We were only able to make a two day
reservation at Tunnel Mountain RV Park.
Till tomorrow.
