Day 44
06/13/18
We were awakened last night about 1:30 with tremendous lightning and thunder. Pretty loud. Then the hail began. For the next 45 minutes we experienced huge hail. This morning upon reviewing the damage, here is my assessment report. The windshield on the car is fractured, one of the mirror covers is broken, the roof and hood sustained major hail damage. Dimples all over. The trailer sustained a couple of holes in the roof, a broken awning and rips in the cover over the slideout. I tried to contact a windshield repair company but they are already scheduled out a week. We are wounded but can still continue on our journey back to Oregon. I hope.
Turns out the hail stones were 3" in diameter. Almost all of the cars in the campground have damage to their windshields. I passed an Airstream with the owner on the phone. Looked like someone had taken a large ball peen hammer and wacked away at the trailer. Seems our fiberglass fared far better. However the roof had a couple of punctures. I contacted a local RV repair and he is coming this afternoon to patch the holes. Our TV antenna was also trashed. Spent the morning on the phone with State Farm and an auto glass repair. They cannot get to us until Saturday when we are in Utah. That works. We will have to take care of the car dimples when we return. Oy!!
